Mt. Baker Lodging Inc. of Maple Falls stopped operating in April 2026 after 27 years and roughly 90 managed cabins. Its website is still online, still has a working search box, and still says “We’re open seven days a week.” It is not. The cabins themselves are all still standing and rentable — just from different people. This page lists who is actually taking bookings on the Mt. Baker Highway right now.
We own and host two cabins here. We are not a property manager and we don’t take on other people’s cabins, so we have nothing to sell you in the list below — which is why we’re willing to publish all of it.
What happened to Mt. Baker Lodging?
Mt. Baker Lodging Inc., the Maple Falls company that managed more than 90 privately owned cabins around Glacier and Maple Falls, stopped operating in April 2026 after 27 years. Its listings are marked closed. The cabins were owned by individuals, not by the company, so the buildings did not go anywhere — the booking channel did.
It had grown from 15 properties in 1999 to roughly 100 by early 2025 — the incumbent on this highway by a wide margin. For a lot of families, Mt. Baker Lodging simply was Mt. Baker lodging, which is why the closure still generates searches five months on.
Did anyone say why Mt. Baker Lodging closed?
Not the company. As of today we cannot find a single public statement from Mt. Baker Lodging itself — no notice on its site, no explanation of what happened to bookings, nothing. The only stated reason we can find anywhere comes from a competitor’s blog post, and that post cites no source for it.
That competitor is Luxury Getaways, a Glacier-based rental company. Its page says “Mt. Baker Lodging closed on April 9, 2026 after 27 years” and attributes it to “unforeseen business operating issues.” Luxury Getaways is real, currently operating, and on our list below — but it is also the business that stands to gain, and an uncited line on a competitor’s marketing page is not a primary source. The April 9 date does appear in secondary sources, which is why we say “April 2026” rather than putting the exact day in bold. If you see a confident explanation of the reason anywhere, ask where it came from.
Why does mtbakerlodging.com still look open?
Because nobody has taken it down. We re-checked it today: not a parked domain, not an error page, but a fully functional website with a working “Search Rentals” box, a © 2026 footer, both phone numbers, and no closure notice anywhere. A pop-up on the front page announces “We have purchased the MtBakerVacationRentals.com domain name. Please browse our inventory for all of your Mount Baker Vacation Rental needs.”
Here is what we verified today, including the places people actually land:

That last row is the chain that catches the most people. The ski area’s own accommodations page names no lodging companies — it says “there are no accommodations located at the ski area” and refers you to the Chamber. The Chamber still lists Mt. Baker Lodging. So you can start at the official ski area website, follow its official referral, and land on a company that stopped operating in April.
Do not enter a card number on that site. Nobody is running a scam; a company can stop answering the phone long before the internet notices, and five months on, the internet still hasn’t. Treat the domain as historical.
Is Mt. Baker Vacation Rentals still operating?
No. Mt. Baker Vacation Rentals, the other corridor agency, has also wound down, and its site is now a single farewell page. Checked today, mtbakervacationrentals.com reads in full: “Mt. Baker Vacation Rentals would like to extend a heartfelt thank you, for the many years of support and adventures with us. We are referring you to our friends at Mt. Baker Lodging. Top of the Mountain to You! — Stephanie, Sean, and Crew.” The button underneath says “Go to Mt. Baker Lodging.”
So the two agencies now point at each other in a closed loop: one shuttered company refers you to a second shuttered company, whose site pops up a notice that it bought the first one’s domain. Both domains are live. Neither business is. If you are searching “Mt. Baker vacation rentals,” that loop is the trap.
Where can you actually book a bed near Mt. Baker right now?
Every operator we could verify is currently taking bookings on this corridor, checked today. There are no hotels on the Mt. Baker Highway — the nearest hotel selection is Bellingham, about 1.5 hours from the lifts — so everything below is cabins, condos, rooms, or campsites.

One caveat on the third row. Mt. Baker View Lodging is a current Chamber member and its site is live, but that site’s footer reads “Copyright 1999–2023” and “Revised 2023,” it has no working HTTPS, and it publishes no rates or online booking. That is not a knock on the business — it means call before you plan around it, rather than judging it by the website in either direction.
The option almost nobody knows about
Whatcom County rents cabins at Silver Lake Park in Maple Falls — the cheapest real roof on this side of the county. Six lakefront cabins, a three-bedroom lodge, and a bunkhouse-style camping cabin, most available year-round; the Cascade cabin only opens when the campgrounds do, April through October. Rates verified today:

Add a $13 non-refundable reservation fee to any of those; reserve online or call (360) 778-5850. The tradeoffs are real — only the Lodge and the Baker Cabin have private bathrooms, the rest send you to a shared restroom, and the kitchens are basic. What should you do if you had a Mt. Baker Lodging reservation?
Treat a confirmation email from a company that has stopped operating as unconfirmed until a human confirms it. We have no visibility into what happened to guest deposits and won’t guess — no primary source has addressed it, and Luxury Getaways notes on its own page that it can’t access Mt. Baker Lodging’s reservation system either. In order:
- Gather your paperwork now. Confirmation emails, receipts, card statements, texts. You need these for any route you take.
- Call your card issuer before anything else. If you paid a company card-direct, ask about a dispute for services not rendered. Dispute windows are limited and they run from the transaction or statement date, not from your trip date.
- If you booked through Airbnb or Vrbo, the platform is your counterparty — not the manager. Open a case there first; their protection policies are the relevant ones.
- Rebook before you resolve the money. Peak dates on this corridor are scarce and a dispute can take weeks. Do not let the refund fight cost you the trip.
- Search for the cabin, not the company. The inventory did not disappear, it scattered. If you know the cabin’s name, number, or community — Mt. Baker Rim, Snowline, Snowater, Glacier Springs — search that instead. Many are now listed by their owners or by another manager.

How do you avoid booking with a company that isn’t there?
Check three things before you pay. It takes two minutes, and this corridor has produced two live websites belonging to closed businesses in a single year.
- Call the number and speak to a person. Not a voicemail, not a form. This is the only check that actually works, and it would have caught both companies.
- Look for a dated signal, not a copyright year. A © 2026 footer is automatic. A rate sheet for this season, or a calendar showing real availability, is not.
- Ask who answers at 9 p.m. when the door code fails. With the corridor’s biggest manager gone, fewer people are on call than there used to be.
Two more things while you plan. There is no lodging at Mt. Baker Ski Area at all — no hotel, no slopeside condo, no base village — and the closest beds are 17 miles down the highway in Glacier, per the ski area’s own Getting Here page.
