Wake 'N Bakery
Scones, breakfast burritos, and small-batch espresso — everything made in-house daily
Glacier’s coffee shop and bakery has been going since 2003, and it’s the first stop we point guests to on a mountain morning. Everything in the case is made in-house every day — scones, muffins, cookies — and the coffee is locally roasted in small batches. The scone regulars have earned a nickname: Sconers.
The Black Cedar has its own free espresso bar, and we still send people here. A breakfast burrito for the drive up the highway is the classic pre-mountain move, and the scones are worth the stop on their own.
One honest note: hours shift with the season and the weather. Highway closures and power outages can shut them for a day, and the bakery itself tells people to check its Instagram for current hours rather than trust whatever a search engine prints. So do we.
What time does Wake ‘N Bakery open?
Seven a.m. in peak season, which is summer and winter — the two stretches when most people are driving the highway. Peak-season hours run 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Late August is peak, so a 7 a.m. coffee before a hike works right now.
| Season | Days | Hours |
|---|---|---|
| Peak (summer + winter) | Mon–Thu | 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. |
| Peak (summer + winter) | Fri–Sun | 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. |
| Spring + fall (limited) | Mon, Thu, Fri | 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. |
| Spring + fall (limited) | Sat–Sun | 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. |
Straight from the bakery’s own hours page, checked August 24, 2026. Fair warning on the shoulder-season row: that page currently carries two different spring/fall schedules — the limited one above and an older “open daily 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.” line — so between roughly late September and the first real snow, call or check Instagram instead of trusting either. They post the same caveat themselves: highway closures, power outages, and weather override the schedule, and Instagram gets the update before the website does.
What to order
- A breakfast burrito, the standard pre-mountain order
- Scones, made fresh that morning
- Ham and cheese puffs
- Espresso or drip, locally roasted
- Quiche when it’s in the case
Good to know
- Peak season is seven days a week; spring and fall drop to shorter days, and the published limited schedule doesn’t list Tuesday or Wednesday at all
- Don’t bank on a late-afternoon stop outside Friday through Sunday in peak season — 2 p.m. is the usual close
- There is no gas in Glacier and the last fuel is back in Maple Falls; see our corridor services guide before you plan the morning
- Comparing it against everywhere else on the highway? That’s our where to eat near Mt. Baker guide.
