Where to Eat Near Mt. Baker: Every Restaurant, Bakery, and Grocery on the Highway

Glacier has the restaurants, Maple Falls has the groceries and the last gas, and North Fork Brewery is the classic stop on the drive up. That’s the whole map. Within about 25 minutes of either town you’ll find a from-scratch bakery, a Tex-Mex smokehouse, two pizza ovens, two real coffee stops, and one genuinely useful grocery store — and past Glacier there is nothing at all until the ski area. Everything below was checked on August 17, 2026.

We host two cabins on this stretch — the Black Cedar, our A-frame near Glacier, and the Little Red Cabin in Maple Falls — and this is the rundown we send guests before check-in. Businesses up here change fast, and half of what the internet says about them is stale. Where we couldn’t verify something, we say so.

Where should you eat in Glacier?

Glacier has three places to eat: Wake ’N Bakery for espresso, scones, and breakfast burritos; Gunners Tex Mex BBQ for smoked brisket, tacos, and blackberry margaritas; and Chair 9 Woodstone Pizza for wood-fired pies with a bar that stays open late. Graham’s Restaurant, the town’s historic landmark, closed in March 2025 and has not reopened.

Wake ‘N Bakery

Wake ’N Bakery has been Glacier’s morning ritual since 2003, and it’s the first stop we recommend to every guest. Everything is made in house, every day: scones (regulars have earned the nickname Sconers), muffins, cookies, breakfast burritos, ham-and-cheese puffs, and oatmeal, alongside locally roasted small-batch espresso. The breakfast burrito is the move — order one on a ski morning and you’re set until lunch.

Hours are the catch. In the peak summer and winter seasons it runs seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Spring and fall drop to a shorter, patchier schedule, and the whole thing genuinely moves with highway closures, power outages, and weather. Gunners Tex Mex BBQ

Gunners opened in July 2023 and quickly became the dinner answer in Glacier. It’s Tex-Mex barbecue: smoked brisket, pulled pork, ribs, brisket and chicken tacos, carnitas, elote, mac and cheese, and burgers, with blackberry margaritas to wash it down. Don’t skip dessert. One recent reviewer ranked the peach pie, cheesecake, and tiramisu among the best they’d ever had.

One honest caveat: its days of operation are the least reliable piece of information on this list. It has run Thursday-through-Sunday schedules, the listings currently disagree with each other, and the hours page on its own site was down when we checked. Call (360) 599-0783 before you drive over with your heart set on brisket. Online ordering and catering run through the website.

Chair 9 Woodstone Pizza

Chair 9 is the après stop — a pizza-and-sports-bar hangout about half a mile up-highway from the town core, on the way down from the mountain. Pizzas from the woodstone oven are the draw, backed by soups, sandwiches, and burgers. As of August 2026 the kitchen runs daily from noon, to 8 p.m. most nights and 9 p.m. Friday–Saturday, and the bar keeps going after: 11 p.m. midweek, as late as 2 a.m. on weekends at the bartender’s discretion. Days can shift with the seasons, so glance at the hours page if you’re cutting it close; (360) 599-2511.

What about Maple Falls and Kendall?

Joe’s Fine Coffee is Maple Falls’ sit-down cafe, serving breakfast sandwiches, burritos, and deli lunches Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. A few minutes down-highway at the Kendall junction, Feast 542 runs a counter-service deli inside Paradise Market from 7 a.m., and Hot Stuff Pizza bakes inexpensive takeout pies inside the Kendall Market gas station.

Joe’s Fine Coffee

Joe’s is a proper small cafe at the Maple Falls corner of the highway, not a drive-through stand: limited indoor seating, a well-liked patio, and a counter doing espresso, drip coffee, tea, and hot chocolate alongside breakfast burritos, deli sandwiches, and house baked goods. The order is a breakfast sandwich on their homemade English muffin — the most consistently praised item across roughly 360 reviews averaging 4.6 stars.

Hours per the current listings: Monday–Friday 7 a.m.–3 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m.–5 p.m. We could not find Sunday hours published anywhere, so if your plan depends on a Sunday coffee, call (360) 389-3276 first.

Feast 542

Feast 542 is the newest name on this list — a counter-service deli that opened around 2025 inside Paradise Market, the long-running gas-and-convenience stop at the Kendall Road junction. The menu covers breakfast, burgers, burritos and bowls, paninis, grilled cheese, and Italian subs, roughly 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the food is tasty, hot, and reasonably priced. Regulars buy extra breakfast burritos to freeze, which tells you most of what you need to know.

Two flags from us: Sunday hours are unconfirmed, and the deli business itself was listed for sale as of early August 2026. It’s operating normally now, but menus and hours can change with an ownership handoff, so confirm before you build dinner around it.

Hot Stuff Pizza

Hot Stuff Pizza is a takeout counter inside the Starvin’ Sam’s convenience store — the Kendall Market Mobil station — about a mile up Kendall Road from the highway. This is cheap, cheerful franchise pizza, mostly under $10 a person, and locals rate it well for exactly what it is. The host store keeps the longest hours in the area, 5 a.m.–10 p.m. and until 11 p.m. Friday–Saturday, but the pizza counter’s own hours aren’t published anywhere reliable, and the oven can close before the store does. Call (360) 599-1229 before making it the dinner plan.

Is there a brewery on the Mt. Baker Highway?

Yes. North Fork Brewery, at 6186 Mt. Baker Highway in Deming, has brewed its own beer since 1997 and pairs it with hand-tossed pizza. As of August 2026 it’s open daily noon–9 p.m., with happy hour Monday–Thursday noon–5 p.m. and all day Friday — the classic stop on the drive to or from the mountain.

North Fork Brewery

North Fork calls itself a brewery, pizzeria, beer shrine, and wedding chapel, and every word is literal. The wall of vintage beer bottles in the dining room is the shrine, and the chapel part means they genuinely perform marriage ceremonies — though, contrary to how it often gets described, the building is a rustic roadhouse that contains a chapel, not a converted church. The beer is small-batch in the truest sense: British-style ales, barrel-aged Belgian sours, and lagers brewed on a 3.5-barrel system. Cascadia Weekly voted it Best Stop on Highway 542 in 2019.

Where do you buy groceries (and gas) near Mt. Baker?

Crossroads Grocery in Maple Falls is the real grocery on this stretch: produce, meat and fish, dairy, beer and wine, bulk foods, plus ice and firewood. Graham’s Store in Glacier is a small convenience stop with an unverified schedule. The last gas before the mountain is at the Maple Falls crossroads — there is none in Glacier.

Crossroads Grocery

Crossroads sits at the corner of Mt. Baker Highway and Silver Lake Road, and it’s the store we point every guest to. For its size it’s surprisingly complete: grocery staples, produce, meat and fish, dairy, a beer cave plus wine, bulk natural and organic foods, gluten-free options, health and beauty, household goods, and hardware. It stocks ice and dry firewood, which matters when a fire pit is waiting. Open daily from 7 a.m.; (360) 599-9657. One quirk: the store’s own website has a broken security certificate, so its Facebook page is the working web presence.

Our provisioning advice is boring and correct: do the big shop before you leave the city, then lean on Crossroads for everything you forgot. It’s a very good small store, not a supermarket.

Graham’s Store

This one needs an honest asterisk. Graham’s is the historic general store at the center of Glacier — the building dates to roughly 1904 — and it has long sold espresso, made-to-order bagels, berry smoothies, basic groceries, ice, firewood, beer, and wine. But the famous Graham’s Restaurant next door closed on March 24, 2025 and remains closed, a status Cascadia Daily News confirmed in mid-2025, with no reopening announced. The store side appears to have kept operating — listings and local guides still describe it — but we could not confirm current hours from a primary source in August 2026. Treat it as a pleasant surprise if the door’s open, not a plan. Call (360) 599-2665 if it matters, and don’t plan any meal around the restaurant.

Kendall Market

Two different things share this name, and people mix them up constantly. The first is Kendall Market the Mobil station at 7519 Kendall Road — the Starvin’ Sam’s convenience store with fuel including diesel, packaged groceries, snacks, hot food, and Hot Stuff Pizza inside, open 5 a.m.–10 p.m. daily and until 11 p.m. Friday–Saturday. The second is Kendall Market the farmers market, Twin Sisters Farmers Market’s Saturday co-op at the North Fork Library essentially across the road, with local produce, eggs, pasture-raised meats, and flowers, Saturdays 9 a.m.–3 p.m.; the 2026 season opened the first weekend of June. If a local says “the market,” ask which one.

And the gas verdict. We re-verified this in August 2026 because a map pin keeps circulating that shows a 76 station near Glacier. It does not exist — the address behind the pin is a private house in a gated community, and 76’s own locator lists no station in Glacier, Washington. The last fuel heading up the mountain is the Maple Fuels station at the Maple Falls crossroads, directly across the street from Crossroads Grocery, with gasoline, diesel, and propane; the Kendall Mobil is a good backup a few minutes down-highway. From Maple Falls it’s about 25 miles to the lifts and 25 back with no pumps in between, so top off on the way through. How far is everything from Glacier and Maple Falls?

Everything on this list is within about 25 minutes of both towns. Glacier’s three restaurants are in town or two minutes from it; Maple Falls’ food and fuel are 15 minutes down-highway. From Maple Falls, the Kendall stops are about five minutes away and North Fork Brewery about twelve. Winter driving adds time to all of it.

Times are dry-road estimates from the town centers. On a storm day, chain-ups and slow traffic stretch everything — check current road conditions before you commit to a dinner drive.

How does this play out from a cabin?

From the Black Cedar, our black A-frame near Glacier, you’re 10 minutes from Wake ’N Bakery in the morning and from Gunners or Chair 9 at dinner. From the Little Red Cabin in Maple Falls, Crossroads and Joe’s are minutes away, the last gas is at your crossroads, and Glacier’s restaurants are 15 minutes up the road.

Either way, the move is the same: fill the tank and the cooler at the Maple Falls crossroads on the way in, call Gunners before you count on brisket after a day of hiking, and save North Fork Brewery for the drive home at the end of the trip — it’s directly on the way out of the valley.
